Objectives

The intention of the project is to empower young people with intellectual disabilities in self-advocacy, independence and empowerment through "older" (meaning over the age of 30) more experienced people with intellectual disabilities who are much further along on their journey to independence and can pass on their personal experiences and self-advocacy skills to younger aspiring self-advocates. The project aims to: 1/ To enable young people with intellectual disabilities to travel and stay abroad, leading to independence themselves. To raise awareness of being citizens of the European Union through the experience of travelling to and being in another country. 2/ To enable young people with intellectual disabilities to acquire skills and experiences leading to independence directly from people with intellectual disabilities. 3/ Strengthen the motivation of young people with intellectual disabilities to become active citizens and to participate in democracy. 4/ Empower them in civil rights and self-advocacy. 5/ Strengthen the competences of "older" self-advocates in the role of active citizen through giving and contributing to society also on an international level, acquiring management and leadership skills through the role of group leader.
