By implementing the project “Silence of Human Rights in the Echoes of War”, we aim to provide a concrete response to the needs of youth, based on our joint analysis with partners. We seek to offer young people from countries where conflict still rages or that have been heavily impacted by war in recent history, such as Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, and Serbia, as well as from countries like the Czech Republic and Slovakia, where the integration of refugees or internally displaced persons is a key human rights priority, an opportunity to share their experiences with each other (and later with the wider public) and to speak about human rights violations, the pressing issue of disinformation, which fuels ethnic hatred, xenophobia, and social discrimination. Unlike standard lectures and discussions on human rights, we aim to take it a step further through a specific methodology of educational simulation games designed in the spirit of informal gamification methods with inclusive and easily accessible elements, while handling with care the serious topics of human rights violations, war conflicts, and forms of ethnic or gender discrimination. This will allow participants to discuss any negative experiences they witnessed voluntarily and openly during the activities, fostering empathy and solidarity among peers towards young people in difficult situations. It is especially disadvantaged youth who are most exposed to the risks of xenophobia and social exclusion. Our activities are therefore designed to monitor in a better way their personal development progress during the project. Another goal of ours is to nurture intercultural, non-confrontational dialogue among participants and provide them with competencies that will help them promote European values of tolerance, diversity, and inclusion through diversified educational materials, creative works, and workshops, both in the participating communities and on social media as part of our human rights campaign. By involving various third parties, we will create space for other individuals, human rights experts, and young people with specific experiences in civic engagement in the fight against disinformation and hate speech to share their testimonies. Through the participation of various partner entities and newcomers, we aim to contribute to the innovation and digitalization of their workflows by having them directly engage in this international public-benefit initiative, addressing recent developments in our countries and the corresponding needs of youth that require attention. By means of creating 6 presentations on human rights during conflicts, and the integration of refugees and socially excluded youth facing discrimination (each focusing on a different country involved), by 6 short participant-made movies regarding these topics; video recordings of living library lectures done by the third parties involved; a participant podcast; and most importantly, a literary and artistic publication with insights into the human rights situation in 6 countries from the participants’ own perspectives, accompanied as a foreword for each of the 6 chapters by an informative and analytical part, we plan to spread awareness of these issues beyond the scope of our project. Through follow-up cooperation, we aim to maintain the positive impact on our participants, inspiring them by showcasing precise examples of our third-party partners, and encouraging them to develop their own public-benefit initiatives related to our topic. Throughout our project activities, we will motivate the youth to come up with innovative solutions for the integration of other citizens facing disadvantages.
