The project aims to address critical gaps in menstrual health education by equipping youth workers with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to effectively support girls and young women in managing their menstrual health, both physical and psychological. Through previous communication with partner organizations, as well as survey research (the results of which are attached to this grant application), it became clear that there is a significant need for increased awareness and practical support in this area. These findings directly informed the objectives of the project, which focus on creating a comprehensive educational and training program for youth workers. This program is designed to make them more informed, empathetic, and proactive in addressing the menstrual health needs of the girls and young women they work with. The project seeks to create a more inclusive and supportive environment by normalizing menstruation and promoting open dialogue. The identified needs that shape the project objectives include a lack of knowledge and awareness among youth workers about menstrual health, persistent stigma and taboos surrounding menstruation, inadequate support structures in schools and youth centers, and menstrual poverty that limits girls' access to necessary hygiene products. Based on these needs, the project has several key objectives: - Educate and Empower Youth Workers: The project will provide thorough education and training on menstrual health to youth workers, helping them develop the knowledge and confidence needed to support girls and young women effectively. - Reduce Stigma and Promote Open Dialogue: By encouraging youth workers to initiate conversations around menstruation, the project will help normalize this natural process and reduce cultural taboos that often cause shame among girls and young women. - Enhance Support Systems: The project will develop strategies for youth workers to implement supportive practices in schools, youth centers, and community spaces, ensuring that girls and young women have the necessary resources and guidance during menstruation.Collaborations with local organizations will ensure that girls and young women have access to menstrual products, reducing absenteeism from school and community activities due to lack of resources. Through this project, we aim to create a lasting positive impact on the lives of girls and young women by empowering youth workers to offer the support needed for girls and young women to manage their menstrual health with dignity. By focusing on education, stigma reduction, and enhancing support systems, the project will foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for young people across participating communities.
