The primary objective of the “Green Future” project from the perspective of youth work practice is to empower young people to actively engage with sustainability issues, fostering a sense of responsibility and agency in shaping a more sustainable future within the specific context of their local church, diaconia or youth group. The project aims to encourage young people to explore and redefine their roles in promoting positive change. The main obbjectives of the project are the following: 1) Raise awareness and understanding: deepen participants' understanding of sustainability through the lens of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By exploring these themes, young people will gain knowledge and a clearer perspective on sustainability's relevance to both global and local contexts. 2) Dialogue and engagement: facilitate open dialogue and mutual learning by encouraging young people to exchange perspectives with peers but also with unfamiliar people during the outreach. This will help them develop communication skills, embrace diverse viewpoints, and form a broader understanding of sustainability's impact across different sectors. 3) Local impact and practical Implementation: enable participants to identify areas where they can personally contribute to sustainability in their own contexts—whether through church communities, youth organizations, or local diaconal institutions. This could include small-scale projects, advocacy, or educational initiatives that promote sustainability in their local context. 4) Collaboration and networking: promote partnerships and collaborative efforts among young poeple, local organizations, and broader networks. This objective aligns with SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals) by encouraging young people to work together and leverage their collective strengths to pursue shared sustainability goals. 5) Youth empowerment and leadership: equip young people with the skills and confidence to take on leadership roles in sustainability initiatives within their communities. By exploring their potential to influence change and shaping discussions around sustainability, they will be inspired to become advocates and role models for their peers and wider society. By addressing these objectives, the “Green Future” project aims to create a platform for youth to actively engage with and contribute to sustainability efforts, ultimately fostering a generation of responsible and informed citizens who are committed to promoting a sustainable and equitable future.
