The "Beyond the Hype" project aims to empower young people by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to navigate and challenge the pervasive issue of greenwashing in today’s market. By implementing this project, we seek to cultivate a generation of informed consumers who can discern between genuine sustainable practices and deceptive environmental claims made by businesses. Our core objectives are to raise awareness about greenwashing, promote ethical consumption habits, and promote sustainable living practices through hands-on learning and community engagement in Stuttgart, Germany and Manisa, Turkey. From a youth perspective, the project is designed to integrate sustainable practices into everyday life while developing critical thinking, leadership, and collaboration skills among participants. We aim to create an environment where young people can learn about the circular economy, upcycling, other green practices, and also identify when they are being manipulated by the word sustainability, empowering them to become advocates for environmental stewardship within their communities. Through a combination of workshops, debates, role play activities, practical activities and communication with local communities and sustainable business, participants will enhance their understanding of sustainability and develop the confidence to lead initiatives that promote ethical, genuine sustainability and eco-friendly behaviors. Moreover, the project involves two key locations—Stuttgart, Germany and Manisa, Turkey—providing participants with a global perspective on environmental challenges. This comparison will allow them to critically analyze different approaches to sustainability and share best practices across cultures. The dual mobility in the project will not only broaden their perspective on global environmental challenges but also strengthen their capacity to drive change both locally and globally by comparing two countries (Germany and Turkey) and also by comparing their countries with these two countries. Ultimately, the project aims to leave a long-lasting impact because we are not only using digital tools but we are aiming to enhance their interpersonal skills along with metal abilities because they have to push themselves to think in the activities. We are creating a network of young, informed leaders who are equipped to influence positive change in their communities and beyond. Therefore the main objectives are to: - Increase understanding of greenwashing and circular economy principles, helping them identify and challenge misleading environmental claims made by businesses. - Encourage and instill sustainable purchasing habits and sustainable consumption by teaching participants how to make informed choices that align with environmental and ethical standards. - Develop skills to analyze greenwashing practices and assess circular economy solutions. - Engage in critical analysis and problem-solving related to environmental issues. - Cultivate a strong sense of responsibility toward the environment by engaging participants in activities that emphasize the importance of preserving natural resources and biodiversity. - To apply learning to real-world scenarios and local contexts. Enhancing of digital skills - Facilitate international collaboration and exchange, allowing participants to share ideas, experiences, and best practices with peers from different cultural backgrounds. Equip participants with skills and confidence to advocate for sustainability. Lead initiatives and educate others on environmental issues in their communities. Develop toolkits, blogs, and reports to share findings and best practices. - Inspire participants to engage in advocacy for stronger environmental regulations and policies at local, national, and European levels by providing them with knowledge about existing frameworks like the EU Green Claims Directive and Ecolabel policies. - Encourage a shift in behavior among participants and their communities toward more sustainable lifestyles, reducing their carbon footprint and promoting eco-friendly practices. - Hands-on exercises and conversations help participants improve their project management, communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
