Objectives

By implementing the Youth Exchange “ANOKI – (Dis)connect”, we aimed to respond to a growing and urgent challenge faced by young people today: excessive screen use and its negative impact on focus, mental well-being, social skills and overall quality of life. The project was designed as a non-formal learning experience that would allow participants to critically reflect on their digital habits while experimenting with concrete, healthy alternatives. The core objective of the project was to empower young people to replace unhealthy screen-related behaviours with sustainable habits that support focus, productivity, physical well-being and meaningful social interaction. Rather than promoting a rejection of technology, the project aimed to foster a balanced and conscious use of digital tools, as expressed through the Anoki philosophy: the goal is to find tools and strategies to make digital detox work for you on the long term. Abrupt and complete disconnection can have undesired results due to its difficulty and incompatibility with our realities. More specifically, the objectives of the project were: To increase awareness and understanding of screen addiction Participants were guided to recognise screen addiction as a behavioural pattern influenced by algorithms, dopamine mechanisms and modern digital culture. The project aimed to help them identify how excessive screen use affects attention span, productivity, creativity and emotional well-being. To support young people in experiencing a digital detox in a safe environment Through a structured five-day digital detox, participants were encouraged to step out of constant digital stimulation and reconnect with themselves, others and their surroundings. This experiential approach allowed participants to observe their own habits and reactions in real time. To develop focus, self-regulation and healthy lifestyle habits Using non-formal methods such as dance, discussion groups, nature-focused workshops, creative workshops and mindfulness practices, the project aimed to strengthen participants’ ability to focus, regulate impulses and build routines that support long-term well-being. To strengthen social and intercultural competences By living and learning together in a multicultural group without digital distractions, participants were encouraged to engage in deep interpersonal communication, teamwork and intercultural dialogue, contributing to greater tolerance, empathy and a sense of European belonging. To actively involve participants in the learning process and knowledge creation A key objective was to empower participants as co-creators. This was achieved through peer-led activities, open space sessions and the collaborative creation of the Anoki Handbook, which captures practical strategies for managing screen use in daily life. To create sustainable impact beyond the Youth Exchange The project aimed to equip participants with tools, resources and motivation to continue applying what they learned after the exchange and to act as multipliers within their local communities, promoting digital well-being and mindful technology use. Overall, the objectives of the project were fully aligned with the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange priorities by promoting non-formal learning, inclusion, personal development, intercultural learning and healthy lifestyles. The Youth Exchange held from 29 May to 7 June successfully translated these objectives into concrete learning experiences and tangible outcomes for the 25 participating young people.
