The project “Get Ready Be Wild” aimed to bring together young people from rural areas and socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds through an international youth exchange and to provide them with valuable learning and mobility experiences. Many of the participating young people have limited access in their daily lives to international, intercultural, or non-formal educational opportunities. The project sought to reduce these barriers and make international youth work more accessible to young people living in rural areas. A key objective was to actively involve the participants in the planning, design, and implementation of the project. This enabled them to experience self-efficacy, take responsibility, and engage directly in democratic participation processes. The young people were not merely participants in a pre-designed programme; they actively contributed to the content, daily activities, catering, group agreements, and aspects of the project's public outreach. Furthermore, the project aimed to strengthen personal and social competences through experiential learning methods, outdoor activities, and intercultural exchange. Participants were encouraged to work as a team, reflect on their own limits, overcome challenges together, and reduce prejudices. The focus was on creating positive learning experiences within a European context and promoting shared values such as democracy, solidarity, openness, mutual respect, and responsibility for the group.
