Objectives

The aim of the project is to offer young people the opportunity to participate in a youth exchange and to create learning situations through comprehensive forms of non-formal education, where they can develop a wide range of skills and engage in intercultural and diversity-oriented learning. Another goal is to provide a group experience where young people take an active role and emerge empowered for democratic participation and civic engagement. The thematic focus of the project is on classism, social justice, and democracy. The aim is to develop future-oriented perspectives on social issues and democracy in Europe together with the young people, building on their experiences and life realities, and based on the values of the European Union. The exchange of perspectives between young people with different societal positions (privileges, disadvantaged living conditions) is at the heart of the project. The initiative encourages perspective-taking. In addition to the thematic work, a theater performance will be created in arts education workshops through a collaborative creative process focused on the topic. The intensive collaboration on a shared theater production, incorporating various cultural practices, offers diverse forms of cultural education and opportunities for enhancing media literacy, allowing the young people to get to know each other well. Furthermore, leisure activities will be offered to complement the thematic and creative engagement. The result of the workshops will be presented at the end of the exchange to an audience of young people, parents, and interested individuals from the region in a theater performance. The project aims to create an inclusive learning experience that brings together young people from diverse backgrounds (e.g., with and without migration experience) and identities. Key aspects include addressing the intersectionality of race, class, gender, and body. The project strives to create a diversity- and discrimination-sensitive learning environment and experience that fully involves all participants and upholds this standard in the planning, implementation, follow-up, and public relations efforts. The camp activities and processes are approached with an environmental consciousness, and topics such as food, materials, and waste separation are discussed with the participants. The project will be comprehensively documented to disseminate the results widely. It sets important impulses for international youth work in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a region where there is otherwise little international youth work. Exchange processes on methodological approaches will be jointly developed and implemented among youth work actors. In doing so, methods for addressing classism will be developed and shared, a topic that has had little space in youth education to date and for which there are comparatively few practical examples. The combination of cultural and political education has proven to offer diverse opportunities for practice and innovation. The joint planning, implementation, and evaluation of the project provides a comprehensive learning effect for the participating organizations and educators, which will have a lasting impact beyond the project itself.
