Our project brought together deaf, hard of hearing and hearing-impaired young people aged 13 to 18 from Germany, France and Türkiye. The main objective of the youth exchange hosted in Germany was to provide participants with an inclusive and accessible environment for intercultural learning, mutual exchange and personal development. The activity formed part of a trilateral cooperation between Kijuga e.V. (Germany), Action Inclusive (France) and AYDER (Türkiye), while this Erasmus+ project specifically focused on the implementation of the exchange in Berlin. The project aimed to strengthen intercultural competences, mutual respect and European cooperation while reducing stereotypes and communication barriers. By sharing their experiences as deaf and hard of hearing young people in different cultural contexts, participants were encouraged to broaden their perspectives, reflect on similarities and differences between their communities, and develop a deeper understanding of cultural diversity. Another important objective was to actively involve participants in a collaborative creative process. Building on the idea of the Sesim Elim project, they worked together to develop multilingual resources that facilitate communication between different sign language communities and better reflect the everyday communication of young people. At the same time, the project promoted the use of digital and creative methods, encouraging participants to contribute their own experiences, ideas and skills to the development of the project outcomes. Ensuring equal participation for all young people was another key objective. Thanks to the consistently accessible design of the exchange, the involvement of sign language interpreters and the use of participatory non-formal learning methods, every participant was able to contribute actively, take responsibility and further develop their social, communication and intercultural competences. In the long term, the project aims to strengthen international cooperation between the partner organisations, increase the visibility of sign languages and create more opportunities for deaf young people to participate in international youth exchanges and society as a whole. At the same time, we aimed to develop sustainable educational resources that can continue to be used and further developed beyond the lifetime of the project.
