Objectives

The project was developed in response to a growing need in youth work to address questions of identity, memory culture, and conflicting historical narratives in a more conscious and professional way. The partner organisations work with young people from diverse cultural, linguistic, and migration backgrounds, including groups affected by war, displacement, social exclusion, and polarisation. In this context, youth workers increasingly face situations where questions of belonging, collective memory, propaganda, and social tensions directly affect young people’s lives, but they often lack enough methodological tools and shared professional frameworks to work with these issues in a differentiated way. The project aimed to strengthen the competences of youth workers in dealing with issues of history, memory culture, and identity in non-formal education. Its objectives were - to involve more youth workers in discourse and practical work on these topics; - to raise awareness of how memory culture functions in society and how it influences identity processes; - to strengthen youth workers’ ability to support young people in these areas; - to provide them with methods that can be used and adapted in daily practice; - and to develop concrete follow-up measures for integrating the results into the work of partner organisations at local, regional, and international levels. Another important objective was to strengthen and widen the network of partner organisations and youth workers working on these themes, and to promote international youth exchanges and learning mobility as valuable tools for professional development, intercultural dialogue, and youth participation. The project also aimed to contribute to more inclusive and reflective youth work and to support young people in developing critical thinking, dialogue skills, and resilience against divisive narratives.
