Objectives

With this project we wanted to respond to a challenge that we all have in our daily work. Our communities are becoming increasingly mixed. Young people very often come from different cultural, religious and social backgrounds. Although this makes a beautiful exchange, but sometimes it creates tension, misunderstandings and even conflict. Many youth workers are not competent and equiped to deal with this challenge in their daily work and feel they need more practical skills and tools to handle this in a good way. So our main goal was: to strengthen the youth workers competences so they feel more confident and better prepared when working with young people from different cultural backgrounds. More specifically, we wanted: - To increase intercultural understanding among youth workers by giving them a space to share real experiences from their countries and reflect on different communication styles and cultural habits. - To give them practical know how, non-formal tools and methods they can directly use in workshops, trainings and youth activities back home. - To improve their facilitation skills, especially when working with culturally mixed groups where sensitive topics like identity, discrimination or migration can be a challenge. - To build more positive attitudes towards diversity and help youth workers promote tolerance, respect and cooperation in their local communities. - To motivate and inspire them to dive deeper in youth work and create new projects and follow-up activities that continue promoting intercultural dialogue after the training. - To strengthen their digital skills so they can better manage projects and spread their results in their organisations and communities. With this project we didn’t just want participants to “learn about diversity”. We wanted them to experience it, reflect on it, practice new methods, and go back home with concrete ideas, ready-to-use tools and new partnerships that will improve their daily youth work.
