By implementing the project, we wanted to strengthen the capacity of youth workers to address environmental sustainability in a more practical, creative, and engaging way. We identified a clear need among partner organisations for better methodologies, tools, and competences to work with young people on climate change, green practices, and environmental awareness. Through the EarthGuard Youth Workers training course, we aimed to equip youth workers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to make sustainability-related youth work more effective, attractive, and impactful. More specifically, the project aimed to improve the competences of 32 youth workers from Germany, Romania, Portugal, France, Slovenia, Spain, Poland, and Türkiye in areas such as ecological campaign design, youth group management, and strategies for attracting young people to environmental activities. We also wanted to help them gain practical experience in using creative and innovative methods, especially photography, social media, and non-formal education, to empower young people to take part in environmental campaigns and community initiatives. The project objectives were: To increase the skills of 32 youth workers in designing and managing ecological campaigns, youth group management, and youth engagement strategies, with the aim of achieving measurable improvement through the training process. To support the development and implementation of pilot ecological campaigns in the communities represented by the participants. To enable the participants to learn at least 10 creative and effective non-formal methods related to climate change, sustainability, and youth participation, and to collect these methods in a Toolbox for future use. To establish a collaborative network among participating youth workers and organisations in order to promote the exchange of best practices and encourage future cooperation, including the planning of new youth projects. To increase awareness and understanding of EU values and of the opportunities available for youth participation within the EU framework. Overall, the project sought to empower youth workers to become more confident and better prepared multipliers who could inspire young people in their communities to adopt sustainable behaviours, participate actively in environmental action, and make use of innovative digital and non-formal learning approaches.
