Objectives

We implemented this project to address antigypsyism, bullying, and the respect for human rights, focusing on the complex social challenges faced by young people, particularly those from Roma communities and other marginalized groups. The project involved youth and youth workers from North Macedonia, Germany, Serbia, Italy, Romania, and Turkey, enabling an exchange of experiences across diverse national and social contexts. In many European countries, antigypsyism remains deeply rooted, resulting in systemic discrimination, social exclusion, and limited access to fundamental rights and services. Roma youth and young people with fewer opportunities often face bullying in educational institutions, their communities, and daily life, which significantly impacts their mental health, self-esteem, and educational outcomes. At the same time, youth workers - who play a crucial role in supporting these young people—often lack sufficient resources, tools, and practical knowledge to effectively address these challenges. Through discussions with partner organizations and a needs analysis, a lack of structured training, practical resources, and networking opportunities in the fields of antigypsyism, bullying prevention, and human rights promotion was identified. Young people, especially those from marginalized backgrounds, face multifaceted challenges, including discrimination based on ethnicity, social status, or identity, leading to feelings of isolation and reduced social integration. The lack of effective protection and intervention mechanisms further exacerbates these conditions. Given this situation, our project focused on strengthening the role of youth workers as key actors in promoting equality, tolerance, and human rights. By providing appropriate knowledge, skills, and tools, the project aimed to contribute to creating safer and more inclusive environments for all young people. Through this project, we achieved the following objectives: Increased knowledge and understanding among 18 youth workers regarding antigypsyism, its historical and social context, as well as various forms of bullying and human rights principles. Developed practical skills and competencies among 18 youth workers through the use of tools, methods, and activities applicable to their daily work with youth. Improved their ability to promote well-being, inclusion, and social integration of young people, especially those with fewer opportunities. Encouraged the exchange of experiences, good practices, and peer support among participants to strengthen cooperation and ensure long-term impact. By implementing this project, we contributed to building the capacities of youth workers and creating a more inclusive society where human rights are respected and discrimination against vulnerable groups is reduced.
