Objectives

By implementing the project it was our goal to teach Danish history and culture through an immersive storytelling experience, in addition to creating empathy, staying international connections for the youth, and training their problem solving abilities, language skills in English, and social skills. The reason why we wanted to teach through immersive storytelling, or rather a serious game, was to allow us to teach in a non-formal way with the game design toolkit of behaviour design, story embedment theories, and the theory of self-determination, allowing the participants to absorb information, practicing skills, and explore culture and identity in a playful and safe environment. We chose the evaluation goals to revolve around overcoming cultural barriers and forming social connections, because we deemed those goals more important than the history goal in the context of the EU Youth priorities and the EU values. This was also one of the focuses of the serious game that we played through the activity, as well as the reason for the chosen outing destination and activities we faced on the trip.
