The Nordic youth event is a week-long event for deafblind youths aged 15-30 from the Nordic countries. The event aims at creating social relations between deafblind youths across borders, since the amount of young people living with deafblindness is very small and therefore, their opportunities for networking and knowledge sharing among people facing similar clallenges are limited within their own country. In addition, the aim is to empower the participants individually in their personal process of understanding their disability, and to enhance their desire and motivation to participate in society with the belief that each of them has something valuable to contribute. Through the different activities during the week, they will be challenged about their current understandings about what you can do as a young, deafblind person and they will gain new knowledge, inspiration and motivation. Furthermore the event is a chance for the Nordic youths to explore Denmark and Danish culture in a safe, accessible environment tailored to the special needs of deafblind youths. On an organizational level the event strengthens the bond between the Nordic deafblind associations and their youth departments which will benefit and strengthen their work both politically and socially.
