Objectives

The "Code: being pART" project aims to achieve several objectives in the field of youth work practice. As the name suggest, first of all it is a project about being PART of something, next, the project is about coding and art, that is, ways of expressing oneself and communicating. So, project aims at fostering intercultural dialogue through relevant hands-on design and coding practices, promoting diversity and inclusion via team work and language games, and encouraging active participation in digital society by raising critical question on how to act with new technologies in hand. The rationale appeared among the young people who use our spaces, as we detect a wish for outreach and a curiosity on “how other people from different cultures think and do?” The young people wants to make a difference, to show their competences and learn something new. Young people are heavily influenced by media, and their education focusses more and more on their digital skills. Therefore, young people in our communities dedicate a lot of time in developing knowledge and master different technological skills. On one hand, the project works as a platform for knowledge on digital design and coding through a game development course. But the focus of this project extends beyond merely fostering enjoyment and enthusiasm for coding and designing; it also aims to impart crucial media literacy skills that empower young individuals to navigate an this increasingly digitalized world. Young people want to co-create with the other young people, so instead of focusing on their individual skills, they will navigate in team work and take their place in a group project. Furthermore, the young people express a wish for more silence, community and togetherness. The other leg in the project aims at exploring this side of life. To achieve these goals, the project "Code:being pART" will include two activities and will include youngsters aging 14-20 years old from three culturally very different countries: Denmark, Germany and Egypt. The first activity one is on an island in Aswan, Egypt, where they will have the space to improve their social skills, well-being, have the digital detox, where they just focus on expressing themselves creatively, build real relationships, and work together on planning for a game. The second activity is in the small town Hillerød, Denmark, where they will have access to our lab, and will implement what they designed and worked on, a game of their choice, related to an SDG topic of their choice, where they will work together, and improve their digital skills. By combining elements of Design Thinking LAB and Digital Detox, the project seeks to create a space dedicated to the well-being of the youth. This opportunity to get away from (social) media and the hectic digital everyday is something our young people say they will benefit from in the future, because a lot of them want to be more in touch with nature and wants to socialize off grid, but it can be difficult then the habit is to communicate online. Then, they will have the space to work in a digital skills, and create a game through coding. This balanced approach aims to integrate the positive aspects of digitization with the necessity of maintaining a healthy offline balance. To summarize, the objectives as following: •Promote intercultural dialogue, and diversity and inclusion. •Improve youth’s social skills, self-expression, self-esteem, and sense of community. •Encourage young people to develop digital tools that bring awareness to SDGs activities. •Improve the digital skills of young people.
