Objectives

The mobility activity in May resulted in significant learning outcomes for both the Danish and Finnish youth workers involved. Through a combination of facilitated discussions, job-shadowing, and thematic presentations, the participants developed new skills, gained fresh perspectives, and identified concrete improvements for their camp practices. The facilitated discussions enabled Danish and Finnish volunteers to exchange experiences on key youth work topics such as culture shock, conflict management, and best practices for planning and running camps. These sessions helped participants compare methods, identify shared challenges, and co-create ideas for improving the quality of their work. The job-shadowing element had a particularly strong impact. By observing Maailmanvaihto’s facilitation of camp sessions and afterwards engaging in structured reflection, the Danish participants gained practical insights into new facilitation styles, participant engagement techniques, and ways to create group cohesion. The reflective conversations also allowed Finnish volunteers to receive constructive feedback and learn how certain sessions are approached differently in Denmark. Each organisation also contributed a thematic session: Maailmanvaihto shared their long-term work on decolonisation, while Danish ICYE presented their sustainability and “Green Ambassadors” initiatives. These exchanges broadened the participants’ understanding of how organisations can work strategically with values-based topics and inspired ideas for future development in both countries. To maximise learning, daily reflection sessions were built into the programme. These supported participants in identifying their learning outcomes, formulating questions, and connecting new knowledge to their camp responsibilities at home. Overall, the project strengthened the professional competences of the youth workers, improved the quality of camp planning and facilitation, and deepened the cooperation between the two organisations. The impact is already visible through new ideas brought into the committees and the ongoing work to integrate the learnings into future camps.
