Objectives

Through the implementation of our project, we aimed to address the deeply rooted Turkish-Greek hatred, which stemmed from historical and political conflicts and had continued for generations. We were aware that, despite some negative experiences during Greece's struggle for independence, both nations had shared centuries of coexistence in Anatolia and the Balkans. During this time, they influenced each other in many ways through music, dance, cuisine, language, and lifestyle. However, this shared culture was often forgotten due to the prejudices passed down from older generations to the youth. Many young people from both countries grew up with negative feelings and hearsay, without realizing how many common points existed between them. Our general objective was to raise awareness among the youth that the hostility between Turks and Greeks belonged to the past and should not define the future. We wanted to promote empathy and mutual understanding in order to break down these long-standing prejudices. In this direction, our specific objectives were: To develop the empathy ability of young people towards each other and eliminate prejudice. To ensure that false truths and historical misconceptions were confronted and replaced with accurate understanding. To instill tolerance in young people and reduce the hatred that had been unconsciously adopted since childhood. To highlight how strong and valuable the shared culture between Turks and Greeks is, and how it can be used as a foundation for solving modern problems and building peaceful relations.
