Objectives

Through the various projects we have undertaken at EQUALINE, we have realized the knowledge gap that exists among young people regarding the rights deriving from the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. This finding was later confirmed by the research we carried out. The reports of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights describe exactly what we thought. That Europeans' knowledge of their rights within the European Union is limited. Rights including the right to dignity, freedom and security, to work, are rights citizen needs to know. Even more intense is the need for young people, who are taking their first steps in professional life, to get in touch with these rights. Through this knowledge they will be able to protect themselves but also develop, both personally and professionally. The "OUR RIGHTS" project aims to raise awareness and understanding of the rights established in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, targeting youth workers to equip them with the necessary knowledge to guide young people in their communities. The training provided through this project will enable youth workers to transfer this essential knowledge to young people, helping them better understand their rights and how to react when these rights are violated. This is crucial for empowering young people to enter the labor market confidently, contribute to society, and fully exercise their rights as European citizens. One of the key objectives is to enhance the skills of youth workers so that they can integrate knowledge about the Charter's rights into their daily work with young people. Through interactive activities, such as peer-to-peer learning, and digital tools, participants will expand their social, communication, and leadership skills, which will enable them to support youth in understanding their rights more effectively. These new skills will allow them to lead initiatives, advocate for youth rights, and create safe environments where young people can develop both personally and professionally. The project also seeks to address current challenges faced by youth workers, such as discrimination, unfair treatment in the workplace, and digital rights violations. The training provided will include knowledge of rights like non-discrimination, the right to fair working conditions, and the right to free movement and residence within the EU. These rights are especially relevant for the professional development of youth, as understanding them can help young people avoid exploitation and ensure equal opportunities in the labor market. Furthermore, digital rights will play a prominent role in the training, equipping participants with the knowledge to protect personal data and combat digital abuse, such as cyberbullying or online hate speech. This ensures that youth workers can address contemporary issues in a digital age, thus creating safer online and offline environments for the young people they work with. In addition to enhancing the capacities of individual youth workers, the project will benefit the organizations they represent. By integrating the project's outcomes into the regular work of participating organizations, the knowledge gained will continue to be applied, thus benefiting the wider community. Organizations will be better equipped to provide rights education and digital communication, making their work more impactful. Additionally, the project will foster collaboration and the exchange of best practices among youth workers from different countries. This will help create a network of professionals who can continue to support each other even after the project ends, contributing to their long-term career development and strengthening youth work practices across Europe. The "OUR RIGHTS" project will also promote the values of the European Union, such as democracy, equality, and freedom, by educating participants about their common fundamental rights. By fostering a shared sense of European identity, the project will encourage youth workers to incorporate these values into their daily interactions with young people, thereby promoting a sense of belonging and unity across borders. This not only supports the personal development of the youth they work with but also contributes to the cohesion and solidarity within the European Union.
