The EMPOWER project aimed to strengthen the capacity of youth workers to support marginalized and vulnerable young people, particularly migrants, refugees, displaced youth and young people facing social exclusion. Through the project, we wanted to equip youth workers with practical knowledge, skills and tools in social entrepreneurship, intercultural communication and non-formal education, so that they could better respond to the needs of the communities they work with. The main objective of the project was to use social entrepreneurship as a tool for inclusion, empowerment and active participation. By improving youth workers’ competences, the project sought to help them design and implement inclusive initiatives that can create opportunities for disadvantaged young people, promote social cohesion and encourage community-based solutions to social challenges. More specifically, the objectives of the project were to improve the skills and knowledge of youth workers in using social entrepreneurship to address migration-related challenges and social exclusion; strengthen their understanding of non-formal education and its role in lifelong learning and youth empowerment; promote intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding, tolerance and respect for diversity; develop soft skills, critical thinking, teamwork and intercultural competences; empower youth workers to support active citizenship and participation among young people; encourage the creation of innovative ideas and practical strategies that can be applied in local communities; and build a sustainable and diverse network of youth workers and organisations working on inclusion, migration, youth empowerment and social enterprise. The project also aimed to address the skills gap often left by formal education systems by providing a practical, participatory and learner-centred experience. Through workshops, case studies, role-playing, group work, reflection activities and peer exchange, participants were expected to gain tools they could directly transfer to their youth work practice. By implementing EMPOWER, we aimed to create better equipped, more confident and more inclusive youth workers who can act as multipliers in their organisations and communities, supporting marginalized young people to overcome barriers, participate more actively in society and access new social and economic opportunities.
