The aim of our project Discovering Senses: Sensorial Stimulation for Inclusion, is to provide our girls and boys with intellectual diversity the opportunity to share an international youth exchange experience that is undoubtedly special for them, allowing them to improve their perceptual, social, emotional and cognitive abilities through multisensorial stimulation, without physical, intellectual or linguistic limits, thus helping them to make their dreams come true, as other girls and boys of their age can do. This project is made up of a large group of entities that believe and share the same vision, considering the exposure to new stimulation, the access to new methodologies, and the strengthening of autonomy to be of the utmost importance. In addition, the project promotes social inclusion and visibility of people with intellectual diversity in an international environment, helping them to overcome all kinds of barriers and develop daily life skills, covering their needs and supporting them where they would find it difficult to go without the support they need so much. The professionals working with the young people with disabilities we accompany consider it essential to stimulate their sensory and cognitive development. For this reason, the fundamental objective is to offer young people with disabilities sensory experiences that enhance their cognitive skills and allow them to improve their ability to process and interpret stimuli from the environment. Through adapted sensory activities, we seek to strengthen the senses of touch, sight, hearing, taste and smell, promoting a greater connection with the environment and improving their ability to respond. We also seek to foster autonomy and emotional well-being, overcoming one of the greatest challenges faced by young people with disabilities: the lack of independence and the difficulty in managing emotions. This project aims to provide tools to help them develop greater autonomy in daily activities. The multisensorial activities also aim to reduce anxiety, improve emotional regulation and increase their general well-being. Through controlled stimulation, the aim is to generate a safe environment where young people can feel comfortable and learn to regulate their emotions. The project has as cross-cutting objectives the creation of safe and accessible environments for young people with disabilities, ensuring that they can participate in activities without physical or psychological barriers that limit their inclusion. Finally, an important objective for all the entities in this project is to be able to help young people reflect on what they have learned during the project, making them aware of what they have achieved, be it sensorially, socially or emotionally. This will be achieved through guided reflection and personalised evaluation activities. Our Discovering Senses: Sensorial Stimulation for Inclusion project aims to positively impact young people's lives by improving their sensorial, cognitive, emotional and social development. By promoting autonomy, inclusion and active participation, this project is aligned with the principles of youth work, where individuality, respect and holistic development are priorities. Furthermore, its focus on professional training, family involvement and inter-agency cooperation ensures that the benefits of the project extend beyond its duration, creating a sustainable impact on the community.
