Objectives

The main objective of our project is to promote mental and brain health among young people from different social backgrounds, fostering inclusion and personal development through a youth exchange between the Spanish organization Enredats and the Finnish organization Ammatillisten Perhekotien Liitto ry, which specializes in working with young people in care homes. Context and Justification This project arises from the urgent need to address the emotional well-being of young people, especially in a post-pandemic context where concerns about mental health have increased. Through this exchange, we aim to learn about and participate in the innovative brain health model developed by the Finnish organization, which has proven effective in educating about mental health. Finnish participants will share their experiences as users of this model, enriching the learning of all involved. Project Objectives Empower Young People and Promote Maturity: Provide tools and knowledge for participants to become active agents in their communities, promoting healthy habits and emotional well-being. Additionally, the goal is for them to acquire skills in team management, project management, and teamwork. Those targets will be worked through all phases of the porject, not only during the youth exchange. Example of Activity: Workshops on mental and emotional health, discussing practical tools for self-care and project management, along with group work dynamics. Promote Inclusion and Diversity: Include young people with fewer opportunities by creating a safe space where they can express themselves and learn about mental and brain health, overcoming social barriers. Example of Activity: Group dynamics to foster cohesion and communication among participants from different social backgrounds. Develop Social and Emotional Skills: Through collaborative activities and group dynamics, participants will improve their communication, teamwork, and resilience skills, contributing to their personal development. Example of Activity: Rotating task wheels during the exchange to manage activities, promoting shared responsibility and collaboration. Create Intercultural Connections: Facilitate cultural exchange between young people from Spain and Finland, promoting empathy, mutual understanding, and respect for diversity. Example of Activity: Cultural nights where each group presents its cuisine, music, and traditions, enhancing intercultural understanding. Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Generate new contributions to the existing brain health model based on the participants' experiences and knowledge gained during the exchange. Young people will actively contribute their ideas to the manual, which will be updated and serve as a reference for future activities. Example of Activity: Collaborative workshops where participants discuss and propose improvements to the brain health manual, integrating their reflections and experiences. Generate Sustainable Results: Ensure that the learning and outcomes of the exchange have a lasting impact by creating a brain health manual that will serve as a dissemination tool in their communities. Participation in a participatory methodology project will be encouraged, ensuring that the experience is exciting and enriching without infantilizing the participants. Example of Activity: Consultation and generation of contributions to the brain health model, where young people will work together to update the manual. Promote Environmental Sustainability: Increase young people's environmental awareness by monitoring the ecological footprint of the exchange and understanding the natural environment of the island through excursions. Example of Activity: Excursions to the Sierra de Tramuntana and other natural areas, where ecological footprint monitoring will take place, and reflections on the importance of caring for the environment will be discussed.
