Young people living in rural areas face vulnerabilities and represent one of the groups with the least opportunities; they face numerous challenges and need to raise their voices in order to be part of decision-making and improve their lives. Traditional forms of youth participation are difficult and complicated to implement for rural youth and trust between young people and institutions is increasingly broken. Mobilising this sector of the population and organising meetings and spaces for participation is also difficult due to various obstacles present in their context such as low population numbers, transport problems and other geographical considerations. It is important to stress that this youth exchange is part of the current process of the Council of Europe (through the joint effort of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities and the Youth Department with the Youth Advisory Council of which our association is a member) around the revision of the European Charter of Local and Regional Youth Participation. With this project we intend to provide a vision from the territory on the barriers that prevent young people from participating in decision-making at local and regional level; and, on the other hand, the refusal of decision-makers to include young people. To all this we have to add the difficulties faced by young people belonging to more vulnerable groups such as LGTBIQ+ people, those with migrant origins or those with non-normative bodies. When it comes to wanting to participate, we have to take into account the difficulties that these people have in accessing safe spaces where they do not have to face discrimination. The intersectional view and approach that we want to carry out in our project is very important. We believe that by empowering rural youth, equipping them with the necessary skills and developing diverse practices and ideas for alternative ways of youth participation, we can amplify the voices of young people living in rural areas and find solutions to their problems at the local level. These concerns have brought together four youth organisations from different European countries working in rural areas of our respective territories to launch this project. The project aims to amplify the voices of rural youth by promoting alternative forms of youth participation in rural areas. To achieve this goal, we have set ourselves the following objectives: Objectives: - To empower participants by equipping them with the necessary competences to promote alternative forms of youth participation. - To explore and exchange online and physical tools and methods for alternative youth participation. - To identify and advocate for solutions to the challenges rural youth face in participating in socio-political processes, amplifying their voices and addressing their specific problems. - Create and disseminate tools to promote the voices of rural youth in relation to their concerns. - To foster a deeper understanding of intercultural values within the Erasmus+ programme among project participants and beneficiaries. - To analyse and problematise the barriers generated by decision-makers regarding youth participation, in the framework of the revision of the European Charter for Local and Regional Youth Participation.
