The primary motivation of this project is to empower young people to confront and tackle the growing issues of discrimination, xenophobia, and hate speech, which are becoming more common in both online spaces and everyday life. The anonymity provided by the internet has made it easier for these intolerant attitudes to spread, allowing individuals to express hatred and fanaticism from behind their screens. This environment allows negative messages to circulate without immediate consequences. Therefore, it is crucial to develop effective tools to fight digital hate and promote understanding among diverse communities, especially among younger generations. Music and artistic expression have historically been powerful tools for promoting social justice, fostering solidarity, and creating empathy among diverse groups. In particular, music acts as a universal language that transcends borders, allowing people from various cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds to connect emotionally. This ability to generate empathy and understanding is essential for reducing prejudice and breaking down social barriers. The specific needs that this project seeks to address include: - The rise of discrimination and hate speech: Many young people are exposed to these harmful behaviors or even participate in them, often feeling powerless to challenge or change these attitudes. Therefore, it is crucial to provide them with tools that allow them to reflect on and question these negative attitudes. - Lack of safe spaces for dialogue and expression: Especially young people from marginalized communities lack opportunities to share their experiences regarding discrimination or exclusion. Creating a safe environment is essential for promoting open dialogue and mutual understanding. - Limited opportunities for creative expression: Many young people do not have access to creative outlets such as music and art, which can help them process emotions and develop a critical perspective on social issues. The objectives of this project are: - Empower young people through music and art: Equip participants with the necessary tools to express their emotions and address their experiences with discrimination and hate through creativity. - Foster empathy and inclusion: Encourage young people to explore their own identities and prejudices while building connections with individuals from different backgrounds, which will help create a sense of community and reduce bias. - Promote social change through creativity: Inspire participants to recognize the potential of music and art as engines of change and social activism, both locally and internationally. - Encourage critical thinking: Provide a space for participants to reflect on their experiences and encounters with hate, developing a sense of responsibility in their interactions with others. - Collaborate on a final presentation: The project will culminate in a collaborative presentation that allows young people to share their message and experiences with the Almería community, promoting intercultural dialogue. For activities with young people, Clasijazz bases its action on the EU Youth Strategy, focusing on some of the eleven youth goals for the period 2019-2027. Engage, connect, and empower are the key concepts of this strategy and represent the approach we have adopted in developing our project. Regarding the 11 Youth Goals, this project primarily focuses on contributing to the following: - Connecting the EU with young people - Inclusive societies - Information and constructive dialogue - Mental health and well-being - Empowering rural youth - Space and participation for all - A green and sustainable Europe - European programs and youth organizations In summary, this project seeks to tackle the challenges of discrimination and hate through the use of music and art as tools for empathy, dialogue, and social transformation. Through creativity, we aim to support young people and provide them with the necessary resources to navigate a complex world, challenge harmful behaviors, and contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate society.
