The "Green Volunteers 4 ECO Future" project addresses the urgent environmental challenges faced by Europe and the world by fostering a culture of volunteering among young Europeans. Research shows that developing an environmental self-identity is closely linked to pro-environmental behaviors and a stronger sense of active citizenship (Van der Werff, Steg, & Keizer, 2013). This concept is central to our project, which aims to involve young people in environmental volunteering by offering opportunities to participate in activities such as beach cleanups, tree planting, and waste management initiatives. These hands-on initiatives play a vital role in promoting sustainable development and preserving the natural environment. The urgency of this project is highlighted by alarming data on climate change and environmental degradation. A child born in 2020 is projected to face significantly more environmental disasters than previous generations, with a 2.6-fold increase in droughts and nearly seven times more heatwaves. This stark reality underscores the need to prepare young people to tackle these challenges head-on. By empowering youth through environmental volunteering, this project contributes not only to immediate environmental protection but also establishes a foundation for long-term sustainable development, social inclusion, and global peace. Investing in youth today is critical for ensuring a healthy and sustainable planet for future generations. The primary objectives of the "Green Volunteers 4 ECO Future" project are to: -Encourage active youth participation in green volunteer activities. -Foster a culture of active citizenship across Europe. -Raise awareness about climate change and its impacts on communities. -Develop essential skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. -Promote inclusion by providing access to volunteering opportunities for young people from diverse backgrounds. -Strengthen the impact of Erasmus+ and ESC programs by increasing engagement with green initiatives. -Promote environmental awareness and advocate for sustainable practices among youth. By bringing together young people from different backgrounds, the project creates an environment that facilitates the exchange of volunteer experiences, empowering participants to take meaningful action on environmental issues they are passionate about. "Green Volunteers 4 ECO Future" emphasizes the development of practical skills through hands-on volunteer work, helping youth become more effective and responsible active citizens. This initiative is closely aligned with the goals of the Erasmus+ programme, the ESC, and the principles of non-formal education. By making volunteering accessible to all young people, including those from ethnic minorities, low-income families, and remote areas, the project supports social inclusion while promoting respect for cultural diversity. It also strengthens intercultural competencies, contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable future. Through this project, we aim to demonstrate that volunteering is not only purposeful but also fulfilling, inspiring young people to make a positive environmental impact and to help build a more sustainable world for all.
