"Art is the weapon against brutality, forcing us to confront the harshness of the world with the resilience of creativity.” ( Anonymous) Globalization and mass media expose young people to the pressures of popular culture, societal issues, and stress. Art provides a way for these young individuals to understand themselves, express their unique voices, and develop skills to manage their problems more peacefully. Art and imagination are key to self-expression and understanding the world. Young people might take action to conceal their depression, voice their anger, or display their strength, but art offers a non-threatening way for them to express these inner feelingsEngaging in various art forms helps children explore their senses, understand their preferences, and develop cognitive skills like planning and problem-solving.In this way, art not only serves as a calming factor but also provides an opportunity for them to develop skills in resolving their problems more calmly and peacefully. Additionally, by increasing the production of endorphins in the brain, art helps individuals feel happier and more energetic, thereby reducing stress in young people and consequently lowering their inclination and impulse toward violence According to European Commission intensive research ; violence rates in Europe show a varied landscape, with some countries exhibiting relatively low crime and violence rates, while others face higher levels of violence and crime. For example, countries like Iceland, Denmark, and Ireland are among the safest in Europe, with low instances of violent crime. On the other hand, there are countries where certain types of violence which have seen an increase in recent years. For instance, the EU recorded a 10.3% increase in violence cases in 2022, with 231,456 reported incidents. The World Listener Survey 2024 stated that In Europe, violence has reached alarming levels. For instance, in England and Wales, violence has escalated to what is described as "epidemic levels," with over 1 million violent crimes recorded between 2022 and 2023. These statistics are part of a broader trend of rising violence in Europe, reflecting both physical and verbal abuse. As Europe grapples with these challenges, the need for comprehensive measures to address the root causes of violence, including cultural and societal factors, becomes increasingly urgent. According to a survey, it was observed that 62% of young people resorted to violence to solve problems. In another survey, only 30% of young people were found to be involved in the arts. These statistics reveal that only 3 out of 10 young people consciously engage in artistic activities. When we look at Europe, the European Union's statistical office, EUROSTAT, conducted a study on Europeans' engagement with the arts. The results showed that Sweden is the country where people are most involved in the arts. In Sweden, while only 13% of young people showed a tendency toward violence, a significant 81% were involved in artistic activities. A similar result has been found in countries like the Netherlands, Norway, Luxembourg, and Denmark. These countries, like Sweden, have societies that are interested in art and are less prone to violence. However, in countries with relatively lower rates of engagement in art, such as Germany, Italy, Turkey, Greece, and Bulgaria, there is a noticeable tendency to solve problems through violence. In light of various studies and data, this project will focus on the theme of preventing violence among young people by leveraging the calming effects of art. Research indicates that societies with higher engagement in artistic activities tend to have lower tendencies toward violence. All the researches demonstrated that art can play a crucial role in fostering peaceful behaviors and reducing aggression. Conversely, in countries with lower rates of artistic engagement there is a higher tendency to resort to violence for conflict resolution. Therefore, utilizing art as a tool to promote emotional expression and calm can be an effective strategy for violence prevention among youth.
