Reception and integration of refugees and migrantsBridging intercultural, intergenerational and social divideEnvironment and climate change

Objectives

The process of human displacement is related to economic, social, political, and cultural reasons, as well as environmental issues. Environmental changes have led to migration due to reasons such as resource depletion, loss of arable land, and seasonal shifts. Especially since the 1980s, displacements caused by global environmental problems have been increasingly discussed. Climate change is one of the global issues caused by human activities, and it can directly affect living conditions. This situation has brought the concept of climate refugees to the forefront. Climate refugees, who are forced to leave their habitats due to reasons such as rising sea levels, the degradation of agricultural lands, and natural disasters, are not covered under the Geneva Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees. This raises questions about the need for the development of statuses and policies for climate refugees. The study examines the current situation of climate refugees and their future security impacts. The relationship between global climate change and security is addressed through literature and current events, and the legal status of climate refugees is evaluated in the context of national and international regulations. The increasing number of climate refugees may become a significant factor in shaping both national and international security policies in the future. Within this scope, the objectives of our project are as follows: Raising awareness about the negative impacts of wars on the environment: Drawing attention to environmental problems caused by wars, such as carbon footprints and the destruction of natural resources. Creating awareness about environmental refugees: Highlighting that wars and environmental degradation force people to abandon their habitats and introducing the concept of environmental refugees. Educating young people and the community: Informing particularly young people about the environmental impacts of wars and environmental refugees, and initiating an environmental movement on this topic. Developing solutions for environmental problems: Promoting preventive steps and legal regulations to reduce human-caused environmental degradation and minimize the impacts of wars on nature. Fostering climate action and sustainability awareness: Raising public awareness about climate change, natural disasters, and other environmental issues, and spreading environmental consciousness.
