Objectives

The project was implemented based on the context that over 75% of Europe's 448 million inhabitants reside in urban areas. This urban setting presents significant challenges to the quality of life, which are further exacerbated by climate change, the loss of biodiversity, and rising pollution levels. In light of this reality, our organisation identified the need to encourage active youth participation in urban environmental policies and to develop citizen capacity for sustainability. The project was executed using non-formal learning and participatory practices to transform youth workers and young people into agents of change within their respective environments. The following objectives formed the central pillars of the project. Following its completion, we confirm the following achievements: A. Empowering Youth Workers and Fostering Youth Participation. The primary objective focused on the direct training and empowerment of youth workers. This was achieved through intensive brainstorming sessions and project design workshops. A key and tangible outcome is that all participants returned to their communities with new concrete projects and initiatives, ready to implement with local young people. In this way, the project successfully created a network of skilled professionals who now act as multiplier agents for change in their local areas. B. Developing Competencies and Skills. We successfully provided youth workers with the necessary tools and methodologies for effective participation. The training concentrated on the practical application of sustainability and environmental awareness, enabling the professionals to acquire specific methods for guiding and empowering young people in the creation of greener urban environments and to reflect on their local realities. C. Promoting Sustainability. Practical initiatives contributing to the improvement of sustainability in shared public spaces were designed. This achievement was verified through the planning and launch of the actions developed by participants during the project sessions, ensuring that theory was translated into tangible environmental improvement activities. D. Strengthening Collaboration. We established and consolidated robust partnerships among the participating organisations. This collaborative work has created an ecosystem of support and resources that will allow us to address environmental challenges sustainably in the long term. The partner network is now committed to supporting the implementation of the new local projects and to participating in future European projects with the same consortium.
