In The Let it GO! Youth Exchange we want to learn to "Let it GO!" Like in the song, we want to let go of our fears and anxieties about being ourselves around each other: ”The fears that once controlled me can´t get to me.” We want to devise theatre around our own identities and explore testing our limits and breaking them - and building trust in the ensemble we all form together. We want to learn more about what is within ourselves, and how we can understand ourselves better. This is why the main topic of our project is Let it GO! We want to learn new theatrical skills and share our national identity with each other. Exploring the Irish and Finnish myths and stories and creating something new from them could reflect our own personal identity. Both countries have a versatile mythology with strong stories and personal characters. Superheroes! Can we use the myths as material to create modern intercultural superheroes? What will happen if we try to combine our national identity (that affects our personal identity), strong and heroic characters (and their adventurous stories), and the dreams the youth have for their personal growth. Can we share and use elements of these stories as a working material in circus or movement workshops? What kind of superhero one would want to be? (values, personality features, super power etc). What kind of good things one could do with these features? What kind of strengths one possess that could be the platform for building one´s identity and self-image? How can art help us to find and recognize them? In short our main objectives are intercultural sharing and breaking down barriers between young people as well as finding new ways to express ourselves and exploring our self-image by using creative & artistic methods. We aim to gain more knowledge about ourselves and our identity by doing art. Creative and artistic working method will give the work ”a frame”, which helps us to feel safe and to explore who we are, but in a larger, theatrical context. We will use stories and characters to learn about our own identity, but at the same time with a permission to play and try different things and not having to think that everything is real, or fear what it might reveal about ourselves. We also want to learn more about exploring and expressing our feelings and also about controlling them in a safe, theatrical context. We also hope that working with topics and methods mentioned, we would also develop our sense of empathy.
