Objectives

The modern world is constantly changing, and we are confidently moving in the direction of globalization. Which means that the countries’ borders are being dissolved, the nations and cultures are being mixed and sometimes assimilated, it becomes much easier to travel and meet people of other countries, nations and cultures. But we are still so different, so diverse in our cultures! And sometimes cultural differences might become a barrier or an obstacle to communication and relationship building. In its turn, the inability to build intercultural communication can lead to intercultural conflicts, inequality, discrimination, racism, etc. On the other hand, tolerance, acceptance, mutual understanding and respect provides the opportunity for efficient communication, peace building and tackling global challenges more efficiently all together. So, the current world demands that we have to live peacefully and respectfully all together, to understand, tolerate, respect and support each other. This means, we have to be united in our diversity. Therefore, we came up with the idea of this Youth Exchange to promote cultural awareness, intercultural learning, to learn the idea and principles of efficient intercultural communication and dialogue, to develop mutual tolerance, respect and peace building. Youth Exchange “CULtural Tribes” was about our culture, about us all, being so different, so diverse, as the tribes, who, however, have to find the way to live peacefully together, to learn, how to respect each other, how to communicate and collaborate efficiently despite all the differences – not only to survive, but in order to create the better world all together! To reach our goals, we involved in our Youth Exchange 4 Programme and 4 Eastern Partnership countries, very diverse in their social and cultural backgrounds. Also we involved experienced and less experienced organizations to be able to share experience and to provide participation opportunities for new comers. Despite the level of experience, however, all the participating organizations are actively involved in youth work on the local and/or international levels, in particular, working in the field of intercultural learning, with various vulnerable target groups, including cultural minorities, youngsters, facing social and cultural obstacles and others. In this way, our YE addressed both 1) the needs of participating organizations a. provided the participation and learning opportunities for their target groups and other youngsters in the sphere of intercultural learning; b. acquired and adopted new learning and teaching methods and approaches in the sphere of intercultural learning; c. developed collaboration and capacity building with other organizations, working with cultural issues; 2) the need of the current youth work and modern world in general – to develop intercultural communication and dialogue, to develop mutual tolerance, respect and peace building. We set the following objectives for our Youth Exchange: • to explore the notion of the culture; • to explore our cultures deeper through our cultural traditions, rituals and ceremonies; develop our cultural and intercultural awareness, intercultural competence; • with the help of simulation and role-play tools to explore and develop intercultural communication and dialogue; to develop constructive communication and improve communication competence and skills; • with the help of simulation tools, Theatre of the Oppressed and other theatrical methods to explore conflict management principles and strategies, to develop conflict management skills and practice to apply them in intercultural communication and communication in general; • to create educational videos, devoted to cultural awareness, intercultural learning, communication and dialogue; to develop digital competence; • to create dissemination strategies to widespread the impact of our Youth Exchange to other organizations and youngsters in participating and other countries; • to create new partnerships and develop capacity building of participating organizations. To ensure the efficient learning process, inclusive and immersive learning atmosphere, we used the following methods and activities: • Name Games, Ice-Breaking Games, Energizers, Getting-to know each other activities; Team-Building activities; • Presentations as methods to introduce the topics (interactive); • Staging/Acting/Performance; • Role-Play and Simulation activities; • Storytelling; • Theatre of the Oppressed; • Improvisation Theatre; • Feedback/Reflection method.
