The youth exchange project "The trails Tell Us Our History," carried out on Réunion Island from May 1 to 10, 2025, had the central objective of implementing a strong transnational educational action. It aimed to convey the history and legacies of slavery and to help thirty young Europeans understand the memorial and civic issues stemming from this history, with a view to actively combating racism and all forms of discrimination related to origin. The specific objectives set out in the application were broken down into five precise points. First, the aim was to ensure Historical and Cultural Education by allowing participants, mostly from backgrounds with fewer opportunities, to discover and integrate the history of slavery within the unique context of Réunion. Second, the project aimed to develop their Awareness of Human Rights by strengthening their understanding of past and present injustices. Third, the work was intended to foster the Development of Critical Thinking in young people by encouraging them to analyze the socio-economic impacts of slavery on contemporary societies. Fourth, priority was given to Strengthening Interpersonal and Cross-Functional Skills such as communication, analysis, and teamwork, essential for their autonomy and future integration.
