Objectives

With the "Hands to Earth" project, our main goal was simple: we wanted to help young people reconnect with nature and learn how to take care of the environment in creative and practical ways. Before the project, we noticed that many young people (especially those living in cities) felt totally disconnected from the natural world. This often leads to "eco-anxiety", where they feel helpless and stressed about the climate crisis. We wanted to bridge the gap between just wanting a green future and actually having the skills to make it happen. Instead of traditional classroom learning, we focused on learning by doing. Here are the specific objectives we wanted to achieve: Learning practical green skills: We wanted participants to literally get their hands dirty. We set up hands-on workshops on eco-construction (like building with natural clay) and gardening so they could learn real skills to take back to their own communities and use in their daily lives. Bringing different people together: We wanted to create a safe, welcoming space for young people from all kinds of backgrounds, especially those who might not usually get these kinds of travel opportunities. By living together in a community and sharing their cultures, they learned from each other and built a strong sense of European teamwork. Boosting mental health and confidence: To help fight eco-anxiety, we included creative workshops focused on art, storytelling, and mindfulness. These activities were designed to help participants express their feelings, build emotional strength, and grow their self-confidence. Encouraging action on climate change: We didn't just want them to know about climate change; we wanted to inspire them to act. Our goal was for them to leave the project feeling motivated to be leaders and advocates for sustainability back in their home towns. Connecting youth organisations: We also wanted to build stronger friendships between the partner organisations across Europe, creating a network of people who care about the planet and want to keep working together on future projects. Ultimately, "Hands to Earth" was all about turning worry into action. We wanted to help build a generation of young Europeans who are not just aware of environmental problems, but actually have the practical skills, teamwork, and confidence to help solve them.
