Objectives

The Cityzenship project aimed to provide young people from France and Greece with an intercultural experience combining theatrical art and awareness of urban ecology, within the framework of the Erasmus+ program. The main objective was to enable participants to develop artistic, social, and civic skills while deepening their understanding of local and global environmental issues. This project was designed to promote inclusion and accessibility, welcoming young people from all backgrounds—regardless of gender, origin, socio-economic situation, physical or mental abilities, sexual orientation, or gender identity—with specific measures in place to support participants with special needs. Above all, we wanted to place young people at the heart of the experience by giving them the opportunity to actively engage in every stage of the project: from planning artistic workshops to creating and performing the final show, as well as preparing events and managing project communication. Participants were encouraged to develop autonomy, responsibility, and the ability to collaborate with peers in an intercultural environment. Another key goal was to create an intercultural dynamic between the young participants and the French and Greek facilitation teams. The project fostered an exchange of pedagogical and artistic practices between the partner organizations — Je Pars à Zart and Among the Ants — combining the French expertise in inclusion through art with the Greek experience in community art and local engagement. This cooperation made it possible to develop innovative methods for raising young people’s awareness of urban ecology while using theatre as an educational and socially transformative tool, particularly through popular education games and co-creative facilitation methods. The project also aimed to strengthen the active participation of young people in the cultural life of their communities. The workshops focused on concrete ecological themes (such as urban planning, and the differences between Montpellier and Athens) and led to the creation of a performance that reflected both the artistic sensitivity of the young participants and their civic engagement. Young people were also involved in the logistical organization of activities, project documentation (photos, videos, journals), and communication on social media, thereby enhancing their digital literacy, sense of responsibility, and creativity. Finally, the project sought to ensure a lasting impact beyond the duration of the exchange. Participants were encouraged to continue intercultural exchanges, share their experiences with other young people, and get involved in future artistic and civic initiatives. Public presentations and the dissemination of results through social media, as well as to local and institutional partners, will help showcase the participants’ achievements, raise community awareness of environmental issues, and promote European values of cooperation, inclusion, and creativity. In essence, Cityzenship aimed to combine artistic education, civic engagement, and ecological awareness within an inclusive and participatory framework — fostering the personal, social, and intercultural development of young people while creating a lasting positive impact on their communities and strengthening the skills and cooperation of the partner organizations.
