Project Wooden Wonders: Heritage and Innovation in European Green Tourism aimed to empower young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, by developing their skills in sustainable tourism, cultural heritage and green practices. The main objective was to show how local resources, especially wood and traditional knowledge, can be used to create innovative and sustainable tourism ideas. Through two youth exchanges in Croatia and Romania, participants explored topics such as wooden architecture, storytelling, traditional crafts and environmental awareness. The project directly contributed to Youth Goal #10 Sustainable Green Europe by involving young people in practical learning on sustainable tourism, reuse, repair, biodiversity, woodcraft and heritage preservation. It also contributed to Youth Goal #6 Moving Rural Youth Forward, as most participants came from rural or less developed areas, or had a strong personal, educational or professional connection with these areas, and worked on concrete ideas for local green tourism routes and future employment or self-employment opportunities. The project also aimed to strengthen key competences of participants, including communication in English, teamwork, creativity, digital skills and critical thinking. A strong focus was placed on non-formal learning, active participation and peer-to-peer exchange. Another important objective was to connect young people from different countries (Croatia, Romania, Spain and Cyprus), encourage intercultural understanding and create long-term cooperation. The project also aimed to support inclusion by actively involving young people from rural areas and with fewer opportunities. Finally, the project aimed to create concrete results (such as tourism route ideas, video materials and workshops) that can be used in local communities and future projects, ensuring long-term impact beyond the duration of the mobility activities.
