Objectives

Mental health is defined as the successful performance of the mental function resulting in productive activities, fulfilling relationships with other people, and providing the ability to adapt to change and cope with adversity. On the other hand, the term mental illness refers collectively to all diagnosable mental disorders—health conditions characterised by alterations in thinking, mood, or behaviour associated with distress or impaired functioning. Maintaining mental health is thus important for proper functioning in the society. The project was created by young people because mental health issues are rising rapidly among teenagers. Some research suggest that twenty percent of teenagers between 13 and 18 experience some form of mental health disorder and half will develop a disorder by the time they’re 14 years old. Since modern teenagers know very little about mental health, and are full of prejudices ("these people are crazy"), many young people that need help do not ask for it. The consequences of not treating mental health problems can be severe, including suicide. At the same time, there is a more recent problem of romanticizing mental health disorders among young people - mostly influenced by social media. For this reason, the participants want to learn about mental health and to empower themselves to ask for help, if they need it, but also to protect themselves from mental health crazes. The objectives of the project are: 1. improve mental health of young people 2. increase awareness of mental health among youth
