The aim of the project is to reconnect urban youth with nature and experience its beneficial effects. During the youth exchange, we aimed to help participants discover the benefits of spending time in nature and raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection, both for their own well-being and that of their community. Based on the independent initiative of the young people, we implemented the project with the involvement of an international partner, thereby supporting the participants' sustainable behavior and attitude through non-formal learning methods. Objectives: Nature-based activities - bringing young people closer to nature and forming an environmentally conscious attitude. We presented programs that serve to improve the mental and physical health of young people. Our goal was for participants to actively participate in various outdoor activities, such as art in nature or joint nature walks. Strengthening the sustainability approach. Within the framework of the project, we strengthened the environmentally conscious thinking of young people. Participants learned practical methods to reduce their ecological footprint and learned the basics of a sustainable lifestyle. Development of intercultural competences: During the program, young people from different backgrounds learned about the values of Romania and Hungary, respect and tolerance between social actors. Development of an active European citizenship attitude: The project emphasized the development of an active European citizenship attitude. Young people learned about their own role in society and how they can take responsibility for their community and environment. This contributed to them becoming more conscious and active members of their local communities. Support for a healthy lifestyle and mental well-being: On the one hand, through daily routine and physical activity: Each day of the program took place according to a consciously structured agenda that created a balance between learning, rest and movement. The mornings started with a joint musical and dance exercise (“Move!”), which contributed to increasing physical activity and establishing a good mood. By developing a health-conscious attitude: The participants learned about the 5 pillars of a healthy lifestyle and learned practical ways to maintain physical and mental health through interactive games and quizzes. By strengthening self-knowledge and mental awareness: A prominent role was given to self-knowledge sessions (e.g. “Who am I?” game, competence mapping), which helped young people recognize their own feelings, strengths and areas for development. Interpreting the daily slogans and keeping a “Nature–Wellness diary” supported self-reflection and the development of mental awareness. Through the positive effects of nature: The program took place in an environment close to nature, which in itself contributed to reducing stress and spiritual recharge. Self-reflective and creative activities in nature (e.g. creating with natural materials, silent observation) helped introspection and develop mental balance. Through community experience and emotional security: Group programs, team-building tasks and intercultural cooperation strengthened the sense of belonging. The supportive environment contributed to the growth of self-confidence, the development of empathy and the experience of emotional security. Supporting the social integration of young people: At the level of involvement: The program made a special effort to involve young people from different social backgrounds. Out of the 37 participants, 14 were disadvantaged young people, for whom the program often represented their first international experience. During the selection, preference was given to those who had more limited opportunities due to social or geographical reasons, so the project played a concrete role in creating opportunities. Through community experiences: The international youth exchange (Hungarian-Romanian cooperation) provided the opportunity for young people to work together in a multicultural environment. The shared experiences led to friendships and participants became active community members. Through skills development: The program consciously developed key competencies (communication, empathy, cooperation, self-awareness) that are essential for social integration. Non-formal learning methods (group work, interactive games, self-reflection exercises) helped young people to better understand themselves and others, and to connect more effectively with communities. Finally, at the level of long-term impact: The project did not end with the closure of the program: participants stay in touch in an online community, share their experiences, and take what they learned further. Several indicated that they would like to participate in community and environmental initiatives in the future.
