Objectives

The project aimed to equip young youth workers with the skills and confidence needed to strengthen civic engagement among the young people in their communities and to support them more consciously in taking an active role in public life. The initiative was coordinated by the Youth for the Nation Foundation (Fiatalok a Nemzetért Alapítvány) in cooperation with the Vigyázó Association from Romania, Casino Hont from Slovakia, the Nyers István Sports Academy from Serbia, and the Hungarian Youth Association of the Mura Region from Slovenia. All these partner organizations work closely with minority Hungarian youth in their regions, bringing valuable local insight into the needs, challenges, and opportunities that shaped the project’s objectives. The participants — all facing fewer opportunities due to economic, geographical, or minority-related circumstances — came from communities where strengthening youth involvement in local initiatives, cultural programs, and civic activities is particularly important. Another central aim of the project was to support the professional development of the participants, especially in the areas of leadership, communication, community building, and organizational work. The training program was delivered by three trainers with distinct professional backgrounds, ensuring a rich and diverse learning environment. Csepregi Kinga, a social worker, psychodrama leader and OHK instructor, contributed her expertise in group dynamics, self-awareness, and community cohesion, with a strong emphasis on creating inclusive and motivating youth communities. Bálega János, president and program coordinator of the Köz-Pont Youth Association with more than twenty years of experience in youth programs and student council development, focused on the practical aspects of civil society work, communication, and youth activation. András Vitéz, an organizational developer, coach and psychodrama assistant, guided participants through the foundations of leadership, motivation, and delegation, helping them become more confident in taking responsibility within their own communities. The project also sought to help participants identify their strengths and learn how to initiate or develop community processes that engage young people more effectively. Since many participants were at the beginning of their youth work careers, an important objective was to strengthen their professional identity and equip them with practical tools they could immediately apply in their organizations. The program further aimed to foster cross-border cooperation by enabling participants to recognise the similarities in their challenges despite living in different countries, and to build lasting professional connections that could support their future work. A key goal was also the development of a practical handbook designed to support youth workers in promoting civic engagement and active participation. The purpose of this publication was to ensure that the impact of the training would extend beyond the mobility itself, providing accessible methods, ideas, and tools that could be used in a wider youth work context. Overall, the project aimed to create a meaningful combination of personal development, professional capacity-building and long-term community impact.
