Objectives

The Go Wild! Exploring Biophilia Theory project was developed in response to a growing need among youth workers for practical, nature-based approaches that support wellbeing, environmental awareness, and meaningful learning in everyday youth work settings. Many youth workers operate mainly in indoor, urban, or digital environments and lack concrete tools to integrate nature into non-formal education in a realistic and accessible way. Building on biophilia theory, the project aimed to strengthen the connection between humans and nature through hands-on experience rather than abstract environmental education. The project focused on supporting youth workers to translate biophilia into practical methods, spatial awareness, and daily practices that can be applied in youth centres, community spaces, and everyday life. The main objectives of the project, as defined in the application, were to: 1.strengthen youth workers’ competences in nature-based non-formal education and outdoor learning, 2.introduce biophilia theory as a practical framework for youth work and wellbeing, 3.develop participants’ ability to apply biophilic design principles in learning and working environments, 4.promote environmentally responsible behaviour through hands-on, low-waste and seasonal practices, 5.support the creation of tangible learning outputs that can be reused for dissemination and youth work practice, 6.increase participants’ confidence to transfer learning outcomes to their home organisations and local communities, 7.and strengthen international cooperation and peer learning between youth organisations across Europe. The overall picture of the project objectives were to introduce biophilia theory as a practical framework for youth work, to provide hands-on tools for nature-based non-formal education, to increase participants’ confidence in applying these methods in everyday settings, and to strengthen international cooperation between youth organisations across Europe.
