Objectives

The project "Journey through Forgotten Customs and Rituals" pursued several key goals: enriching methods of working with young people and popularising cultural heritage among young people. The project aimed to help young people from diverse backgrounds better understand the cultural heritage, identity, and unique features of their communities. This is necessary to foster a sense of pride and continuity, ensuring the transfer of essential traditions, customs, and rituals to future generations. The project brought together eight organisations from different countries (Ireland, Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Spain, Lithuania, Sweden and Finland). In the course of preparation and implementation, the organisers tried to encourage the participants to discover unique elements of the cultural heritage of their countries to create and form a common European identity among the young participants, based on mutual respect and understanding of cultural similarities and differences. The project "Journey through Forgotten Customs and Rituals" focused on intercultural interaction. Participants learned about the culture and lifestyle of their peers from all over Europe, broadened their horizons, and deepened their understanding of diversity. This contributed to greater tolerance, acceptance, and openness to other cultures. Through participation in the project, young people developed important skills, including social responsibility, communication, problem-solving, creativity, initiative, teamwork, planning, flexibility, and adaptability. These skills are crucial for both personal and professional development, enhancing the employability of young participants and their social integration. The project "Journey through Forgotten Customs and Rituals" also aimed to strengthen the links between partner organisations from different countries, creating a sustainable network for the promotion of cultural heritage at local, regional and national levels through the Erasmus+ program. The cooperation facilitated the exchange of best practices in the field of youth work, especially in the use of cultural heritage for interaction and education. The project was in line with and contributed to the European Strategy for Cultural Heritage for the 21st Century (CM/Rec(2017)1) by promoting the promotion and preservation of cultural heritage among young people, thereby strengthening their sense of European citizenship.
