Our core team of young people said that they wanted to raise awareness of the negative representation of youth from Dublin’s Northeast Inner City (NEIC) and the unrealistic expectations placed upon them which was at times affecting their ability to become active citizens within their own communities and wider society. By implementing the Active Citizens a New Generation of Entrepreneurs project the overall aim was to empower our young people to become proactive, socially responsible and economically independent members of their communities. We as youth workers wanted to create an environment where youth develop the mindset, skills, and confidence needed to identify challenges around them and turn their solutions into sustainable entrepreneurial initiatives. The implementation of this youth led Active Citizens a New Generation of Entrepreneurs project meant that our core team of young people were empowered to contribute towards the objectives of the EU Youth Strategy 2021-2027, Erasmus + 2021-2027 and EU Youth Dialogue. The objectives of the project were to build entrepreneurial skills amongst our young people, through equipping them with practical knowledge in business development, financial literacy, innovation and project management. Promoting active citizenship and social responsibility To encourage our young people to understand their role in community development and motivate them to design business ideas that address local social, economic, or environmental issues. Fostering creativity and innovation in terms of inspiring the young people to think critically and creatively, explore new ideas, and develop innovative solutions that respond to real-world needs. Strengthen leadership and teamwork among the young people leading to enhanced leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills through workshops, group activities, and community-based projects. Providing mentorship and networking opportunities in terms of connect young aspiring entrepreneurs with business experts, mentors, and organisations that can support them in transforming ideas into action. Increase youth employability and self-reliance to equip our young people with competencies that enhance their chances of employment or self-employment, reducing dependency and improving their long-term prospects. Lastly to encourage sustainable community development in terms of supporting youth-led initiatives that contribute to long-term positive social impact within their communities.
