Objectives

The main objective of the project was to create practical digital youth work tools that help youth workers engage young people in discussions and exercises related to gender equality and intersectional perspectives through video games. The project aimed to convert proven in-person exercises into digital and game-based formats and package them into accessible instructional materials for youth workers. Another important objective was to increase awareness among youth of gender-based discrimination and the experiences of marginalized groups, while promoting safer and more inclusive online communities. In addition, the partnership aimed to strengthen cooperation and knowledge exchange between the participating organisations and build a foundation for future collaboration in the field of digital youth work.

Background

The project was developed in response to a growing need for stronger digital youth work tools that engage young people through the environments where they are most active, particularly video games and online communities. The partnership identified that while gaming participation among youth is extremely high, there are still relatively few practical tools that help youth workers in these settings address topics such as gender equality, inclusion, discrimination, and respectful online behaviour. The project therefore aimed to address these needs by converting proven perspective-engaging exercises into digital and video game-based formats, while also creating accessible instructional tools for youth workers. The overall goal was to strengthen the quality of digital youth work and contribute to safer, more inclusive online communities for young people.
