Objectives

The project was based on a growing awareness among young Europeans regarding environmental issues, as highlighted by Eurobarometer data, according to which 67% of young people considered the environment the most urgent priority. This awareness, although positive, brought with it a worrying phenomenon: eco-anxiety, a form of stress and concern linked to environmental challenges and climate change. A survey conducted in the various local communities of the participants, among young people aged between 18 and 25, revealed that 76% of respondents perceived a direct impact of environmental issues on their daily lives, while 12% stated that they faced serious problems related to eco-anxiety. These data highlighted the need to address not only ecological challenges, but also the psychological well-being of young people, who felt overwhelmed by concerns about the future of the planet. In this context, art was identified as an effective tool to combat climate anxiety, thanks to its ability to facilitate emotional expression and stimulate social change. Addressing youth eco-anxiety through art was therefore the first objective of the project, as art offered a unique means to express and manage emotions related to climate anxiety. In a context where many young people felt overwhelmed by concerns about the future of the planet, artistic activities allowed them to transform such concerns into creativity, providing a safe space to explore complex feelings. Through the project activities, participants were able to use different forms of art to express their experiences and reflections on the environment. This process facilitated the processing of emotions and created a sense of community among young people, encouraging them to share their stories and to engage with ecological issues in a constructive way. Another central objective of the project was the development of participants’ key and environmental competences, which was essential to promote their personal and professional growth. Through a series of practical and educational activities, young people had the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in the ecological field, such as waste management, sustainable use of resources and the promotion of eco-friendly lifestyles. This learning process enriched their cultural and professional background and prepared them to become active and aware citizens, capable of addressing environmental challenges and contributing to a more sustainable society. The evaluation of the competences acquired during the project served to monitor participants’ progress and to ensure that growth objectives were achieved. Promoting environmental engagement by involving young people in environmental protection initiatives was another objective of the project, which aimed to transform awareness into concrete action. Through practical activities, such as volunteering projects, awareness-raising campaigns and environmental restoration actions, participants were encouraged to actively contribute to environmental protection within their communities. These practical experiences not only helped young people to better understand ecological issues, but also motivated them to become agents of change, inspiring others to join them in the pursuit of a sustainable future. Active participation in these initiatives fostered a sense of responsibility and belonging, creating a culture of environmental activism among young people. Finally, facilitating intercultural dialogue was a crucial objective to promote exchange and understanding among young people of different nationalities. Through collaborative activities and shared projects, participants had the opportunity to interact with peers from different cultures and backgrounds. This intercultural exchange enriched the experience of young people and contributed to building bridges between different communities, promoting a sense of unity and global cooperation. Discussions and shared activities facilitated mutual understanding, reducing prejudices and stimulating constructive dialogue on how to face common challenges together, thus creating a more inclusive and collaborative future. In summary, the project aimed to: -Address youth eco-anxiety through art by transforming environmental concerns into creativity. -Develop participants’ key and environmental competences for personal and professional growth. -Promote environmental engagement by involving young people in environmental protection initiatives. -Facilitate intercultural dialogue by fostering exchange and understanding among young people of different nationalities.
