Objectives

The KokorEUth project aims to respond to a central challenge for young people today: the growing dependence on social media and the negative impact they have on mental and psycho-physical well-being. The primary objective of the project is to help participants rediscover personal balance, placing psychological and physical well-being at the center. This theme has proven even more urgent in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has exacerbated the sense of isolation and the excessive use of technology. Quarantine and social restrictions have in fact deeply affected the young age group, undermining their emotional and mental stability. Through the implementation of the project, we intend to offer an educational and training context in which young people can not only reflect on the consequences of excessive use of technology, but also learn strategies and tools to better manage their digital life. We want to create a space for dialogue and sharing that favors the return to real interaction and personal development. In this context, mindfulness and meditation tools will become the core of the activities, allowing participants to reconnect with themselves and with their "kokoro", the vital heart that is at the heart of our project. Our activities, which will include workshops, meditation sessions and digital disconnection laboratories, aim to raise awareness among young people about the consequences of a life too immersed in the virtual world. Emotional detachment and isolation generated by the uncontrolled use of social media are phenomena that are increasing dramatically. With KokorEUth, we want to provide the tools to counteract these trends and to promote a more conscious and healthy use of technology. Participants will learn to distinguish between real and virtual relationships, will gain awareness of the importance of establishing healthy boundaries in the use of technology and will train to experience moments of disconnection from the digital world to reconnect with the real world. One of the main objectives is also to develop the ability to cope with stress and anxiety, which have been exacerbated by recent global challenges, including not only the pandemic, but also the context of political and economic uncertainty that many young people are experiencing. Social inclusion and active citizenship will be at the heart of this process, with a particular focus on young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. They will be involved in activities that will help them strengthen their resilience and develop key skills needed to face the challenges of everyday life. KokorEUth also aims to create a network of young people who can support each other, sharing experiences and ideas on how to improve their psycho-physical well-being. Through the project, participants will not only acquire practical skills useful in everyday life, but will also develop a sense of belonging and mutual support, which are essential for their emotional and social well-being. This network can then continue to exist even after the end of the project, acting as a resource for support and sharing. The impact of KokorEUth will also extend beyond the group of direct participants. Through dissemination and awareness-raising activities, we aim to raise awareness among young people and the local community about the risks of excessive use of social media and the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between digital and real life. The project will also encourage young people to actively participate in community life, encouraging them to become agents of change and to promote mental and physical well-being practices among their peers. Finally, the project aims to provide concrete resources that can be used by young people also outside the specific context of the project. Tools such as meditation and mindfulness will be taught in a way that can be easily integrated into daily life. This practical approach will ensure that participants can continue to benefit from the skills acquired even after the project ends, creating a lasting impact on their lives. Through KokorEUth, we aim to improve the mental and physical well-being of young people, providing them with tools to face the challenges of the modern world, especially in relation to technology and social media. We want to promote a culture of awareness and self-care, where young people can develop healthy relationships with technology, themselves, and others.
