Objectives

The project “Youth for Digital Sustainability” was implemented with the aim of strengthening useful digital skills among the young participants while at the same time promoting greater awareness of contemporary environmental challenges. The initiative was designed to contribute to the development of more informed, active, and responsible young European citizens, capable of using digital technologies not only as technical tools but also as means to promote sustainable behaviors in everyday life and in their future professional experiences. One of the main objectives of the project was to strengthen the digital skills of the participants. Through practical activities, workshops, and moments of collaborative learning, young people were involved in experiences aimed at developing competencies related to technological innovation and the conscious use of digital tools. This process enabled participants to acquire skills that are also useful from the perspective of future employability, increasing their ability to navigate an increasingly digital social and professional environment. At the same time, the project pursued the objective of raising awareness among young people about environmental sustainability. The activities carried out demonstrated how digital technologies can be used responsibly to address some of today’s environmental challenges and to promote more sustainable development models. In this way, participants were encouraged to reflect on the relationship between technological innovation and sustainability, understanding how digital skills can also contribute to the spread of more environmentally responsible practices. Another objective was to promote social inclusion and reduce the digital divide by involving young people with fewer opportunities. The project paid particular attention to the participation of young people facing economic, social, or geographical barriers, offering them the opportunity to access educational and training activities that would otherwise be difficult to reach. This approach helped make the experience more equitable and inclusive, encouraging active and meaningful participation from all participants. The project also aimed to develop key transversal skills such as teamwork, collaboration, and intercultural communication. Through group activities and opportunities for exchange among young people from different backgrounds, participants had the chance to experience cooperative dynamics and to develop problem-solving abilities and intercultural dialogue skills. These competencies represent an important element for their personal development and for active participation in an increasingly interconnected European society. Finally, the project contributed to strengthening in participants a sense of European citizenship and active participation. Non-formal education activities encouraged reflection on the role of young people within society and on the importance of shared values such as solidarity, inclusion, participation, and mutual respect. In this way, participants were encouraged to recognize themselves as active European citizens, capable of contributing positively to their local communities and to the broader European context. All these objectives were pursued through non-formal education methodologies based on the active participation of young people and on a practical approach to learning. Workshops, laboratories, and collaborative activities created a safe and stimulating space in which participants could experiment, exchange ideas, and put the acquired skills into practice. In addition, moments of reflection and self-assessment were used to accompany the learning process and help young people recognize the progress achieved during the project.
