The project “Healthy and Sustainable Living: An Educational Journey in Caposele” was born with the aim of promoting a new awareness among young Europeans about the value of sustainability, health, and active citizenship, through an educational path based on non-formal learning, interculturality, and direct experience. The overall objective has been to contribute to the formation of a more responsible, aware and capable generation of adopting healthy and sustainable lifestyles, in line with the priorities of the Erasmus+ Programme and the objectives of the European Green Deal and the EU Youth Strategy 2019–2027. More specifically, the project pursued three main macro-objectives: 1. Understand systemic food cycles and environmental sustainability. We wanted to offer participants concrete, interdisciplinary knowledge of the relationships between food production, consumption, and environmental impact, fostering the discovery of sustainable agricultural practices and the value of local products. Through cooking workshops, farm visits, harvesting activities and workshops with experts (such as Coldiretti and Prof. Giovanni De Feo – Greenopoli), young people were able to acquire practical tools to adopt conscious and replicable eating behaviors in their own life contexts. 2. Promote healthy and responsible lifestyles. The project integrated physical activities (trekking, fitwalking, nature excursions) and moments of psychological reflection and emotional well-being, supported by the presence of a professional psychologist. This synergy between physical health and inner well-being has allowed young people to recognize the importance of personal balance as the foundation for active citizenship and a sustainable life. The goal was to educate about self-care, stress management, sociability and prevention, strengthening resilience skills. 3. Fostering social inclusion and intercultural dialogue. One of the most qualifying aspects was the inclusive approach: the presence of young people with fewer opportunities made the project a genuine example of equality and active participation. Through cooperation between groups from Italy, Greece and Spain, we have promoted linguistic inter-understanding, solidarity and the building of relations based on mutual respect. Intercultural learning, founded on participatory methods, has helped to overcome stereotypes and strengthen the sense of European citizenship. The intervention was fully consistent with the objectives of Key Action 1 – Youth Mobility (KA152-YOU), responding to the central pillars of the programme: - Promote the active participation of young people in democratic life and in building sustainable communities; - Encourage social inclusion and equal opportunities, offering a welcoming and accessible environment for all; - Develop key and transversal skills (teamwork, leadership, creativity, time management, intercultural communication); - Strengthen environmental and climate awareness, in line with the cross-cutting Erasmus+ Goes Green priority. Through a learning by doing approach, participants have: - acquired practical skills related to sustainability, natural cuisine, respect for resources and personal health; - gained autonomy, critical thinking and self-confidence, fundamental elements for youth empowerment; - developed intercultural capacities and European awareness, strengthening dialogue and cooperation between partner communities; - including the value of rural land as an educational and innovative space for social and environmental experimentation. The project aimed to generate a lasting impact: young people who are the protagonists of concrete change in their own territories, capable of transferring the knowledge acquired to schools, associations, and local communities. Healthy and Sustainable Living therefore represented for Info Irpinia and the European partners not only a training experience, but a laboratory of active citizenship and sustainability that reinforces the idea of a Europe of people, founded on cooperation, health and respect for the environment.
