Objectives

The project “Borders to Bond, Borders to Divide” was created to address the growing need among young people to better understand the concept of borders, not only as geographical or political divisions, but also as personal, social, cultural and emotional boundaries that influence relationships, identities and opportunities. The project aimed to support young people in reflecting on how borders can both divide and connect individuals and communities, and how these boundaries affect inclusion, dialogue, well-being and participation in society. Particular attention was given to personal and inner borders, such as fear of failure, lack of self-confidence, stereotypes and social exclusion, which often limit young people’s active engagement in their communities. Through a youth exchange based on non-formal education, the project sought to create a safe and inclusive learning space where participants from different countries could share experiences, confront differences, and develop mutual understanding. The objectives of the project were to strengthen intercultural dialogue, promote empathy and peaceful coexistence, and encourage young people to transform borders into opportunities for connection rather than separation. Another key objective was to enhance participants’ personal and social competences, such as communication skills, critical thinking, emotional awareness and cooperation, by engaging them in creative, reflective and participatory activities. The project also aimed to empower young people to become more active, aware and responsible citizens, capable of reflecting on their role in society and contributing positively to their local communities after the exchange
