Inclusion of marginalised young peoplePhysical and mental health, well-being

Objectives

With the implementation of this project, we aimed to address the pressing issue of youth drug abuse by promoting awareness, education and healthy, drug-free lifestyles among young people. The project objectives were embedded in the broader context of youth work, focusing on empowerment, inclusion and personal development. The objectives, contextualised to youth work, were: - Awareness and education: The project aimed to educate participants and their communities about the dangers and consequences of drug use. Through workshops, discussions and practical activities, we deepened participants’ understanding of how substance abuse affects physical, mental and social health. - Promoting healthy lifestyles: By engaging participants in sports and mindfulness activities such as yoga and trekking, the project encouraged the adoption of healthy habits. These activities were designed to act as positive alternatives to drug use, demonstrating that physical activity and social engagement can be powerful tools to cope with stress and avoid addiction. - Empowering young people through skills development: The project aimed to provide participants with practical skills, such as organising community events, facilitating workshops and leading social initiatives. These skills not only improved their employability, but also made them active members of their communities, capable of driving positive change. - Promoting social inclusion and diversity: A key aim of the project was to promote social inclusion, especially for young people with fewer opportunities, such as those recovering from drug addiction. By involving these individuals at all stages of the project we reduced stigma, strengthened their self-esteem and ensured that they felt valued and included in the community. - Strengthening European identity and solidarity: Through intercultural exchange and collaboration, the project strengthened participants' sense of European identity and solidarity. By working with colleagues from different countries, participants developed a deeper understanding of cultural diversity and the importance of unity in addressing common challenges such as drug addiction. - Creating a sustainable impact: Finally, the project is designed to have a lasting impact beyond its immediate duration. By producing educational materials, organizing community events and fostering lasting partnerships, we ensured that the project's outcomes will continue to benefit participants and their communities long after its conclusion. These objectives were in line with the principles of youth work, emphasizing the importance of education, empowerment and social inclusion in helping young people cope with the challenges of adolescence and the transition to adulthood.
