P.R.IDE. - People and Rural Identities was conceived as an evolution of previous Youth Exchanges, continuing a journey already started. The setting of Melissa, a charming village in the province of Crotone, invites us to reflect on a crucial question: what stories do Europe's forgotten small villages still have to tell? Starting from this premise, we have designed a series of projects aimed at rediscovering the natural environment, in synergy with a healthy, plant-based diet. These elements are essential in helping us disconnect from the hectic pace of urban life, promoting a view of the body as part of a larger ecosystem. The project aims to achieve several key objectives in the field of youth work and non-formal education: ACTIVE YOUTH ENGAGEMENT: The project seeks to engage young people in exploring issues relevant to them. Through workshop activities, participants will rediscover rural areas and assess their potential in terms of sustainability, well-being, and culture. USING ART AS A TOOL FOR EXPRESSION: Theater will offer participants the opportunity to express their ideas and work together on topics that matter to them, helping them open up and overcome isolation and depression that sometimes arise from living in rural areas. The creation of a final performance will be a unique chance for many of them to engage with an audience, improving their public speaking skills and encouraging an active and enterprising attitude. In addition, videomapping will allow them to learn technical aspects of digital language. DEVELOPING PROFESSIONAL SKILLS: Through involvement in decision-making, planning, and implementing activities, as well as workshops led by industry professionals, young people will acquire key skills in youth work, such as teamwork, leadership, and effective communication. We will create a stimulating environment where participants can explore meaningful topics and contribute positively to their community and the environment. REVALUATION OF RURAL TRADITIONS: The aim is to rediscover and promote the agricultural traditions of Melissa, countering the idea that rural areas offer fewer opportunities compared to urban centers. We will highlight the challenges and opportunities for revitalizing villages like Melissa, fostering a context in which young people can grow and succeed without the need to move to metropolitan areas. RAISING AWARENESS IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY: We aim to actively involve the local community, both through the participation of local youth and through theatrical events that will create connections between people of different languages and generations. These performances will provide a unique opportunity to bridge distant realities and promote a sense of community. Partner organizations will be engaged for eight months in the realization of the project, providing resources and expertise to work with and for young people. This will not only strengthen youth sector intervention capabilities but also create a lasting impact on the territory. Through P.R.IDE., we aim to build a future where young people can explore their potential, express their ideas, and actively contribute to their community, rediscovering the beauty and opportunities that small villages can offer.
