The Unleash culturE project was born thanks to the initiative of a group of young people passionate about culture and humanitarian commitment, who, during an event organized by the EUvolution association, discovered the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ program. From that meeting emerged the idea of renewing interest in European cultural heritage, in line with the celebrations of the European Year of Cultural Heritage in 2018 and the European Heritage Days that take place every year. The initiative used cultural heritage as a lever to generate a positive impact both on the Sardinian community and at a European level, also involving ethnic minorities present on the island, in particular those from Albania, Ukraine, Romania and Poland, who often face difficulties in integration processes. The project promoted heritage not only as a historical element to be preserved, but as an active tool for dialogue, inclusion and social cohesion. During the exchange, participants presented the cultural heritage of their countries through non-formal educational methodologies, learned and developed during the project. The highlight was a fair open to the citizens of Alghero, designed to encourage meeting and interaction between the local population and minority communities. Unleash culturE also addressed the problem of the high number of young NEETs, both in Sardinia and in the partner countries, promoting non-formal education paths and interest in careers in the cultural sector, such as tourism, event management or heritage conservation, in order to increase employment opportunities and encourage the active participation of young people. To complete the activities, a Toolkit on Cultural Heritage was created, a set of educational materials on the cultural heritage of the countries involved, intended for cultural associations as an educational resource. This tool was useful not only to train young people, but also to stimulate future cultural exchanges and enhance European heritage, strengthening the link between the different communities of the continent. The entire project has therefore contributed to European initiatives for the valorization of cultural heritage, creating an informal learning space for 35 young people from Italy, Albania, Poland, Romania and Ukraine and promoting intercultural dialogue. Furthermore, it has supported the inclusion of minorities, stimulated interest in humanistic professions and left an educational legacy useful to other associations.
