This project started to take shape during our last youth exchange, “Dance as a Tool for Inclusion and Tolerance”. After the successful execution of the project, we included partners and participants in a group brainstorming session that generated ideas for this next project. As in the last initiative, inclusion and tolerance remain the main priorities; but, at this time, our more specific focus is on young people with disabilities. People with disabilities face the reality of being ignored or worse, the target of misguided pity, in their daily lives due to an attitude that lacks true empathy. This approach not only alienates disabled individuals, but also makes them withdraw from society, affecting their self-esteem, socialization and production. Therefore, one of our main goals is to change society’s view of disability in a way that supports a more inclusive and healthy lifestyle. Overcoming these challenges requires empathy, which is the ability to relate to the experiences of others. It is a great tool to avoid or solve communication problems and helps to share the emotions and ideas of others. Through a series of events ranging from experiential learning to cultural sharing, our initiative aims to raise awareness of the value of empathy and inclusion, thus promoting a compassionate and positive attitude towards people with disabilities of all kinds. We will record all activities using images and testimonies to ensure the dissemination of the project's results and lessons, thus allowing participants to share their opinions on the experience of taking on the position of people with disabilities. This process will not only support the personal growth of young participants by motivating them to include people with disabilities in their lives, but will also be very important in improving the self-esteem and productivity of people with disabilities themselves, allowing them to break out of social isolation. We hope that increasing the sense of empathy and social consciousness of participants in the wider society and within themselves will lead to good changes. An empathetic person instinctively approaches people in a sensitive and polite way, thus promoting a more inclusive and friendly environment for all. Cultural evenings and high communication and interpersonal contact events will enhance our project activities, which include interactive teaching strategies including experiential learning, demonstration, presentations and brainstorming, through cultural enrichment. These meetings will enable participants to acquire a wide range of skills. We aim to provide great added value not only to our community but also globally, thus improving the quality of life of people with disabilities and beyond. Further objectives of the project are: Encouraging leadership and autonomy among young people with disabilities: the project will help them to acquire leadership skills and actively manage activities, strengthening their confidence and ability to take personal and professional responsibilities. Creating an intercultural and intergenerational exchange: the project promotes cultural inclusion by bringing together young people from different European countries and backgrounds to share ideas and practices on disability integration. This exchange fosters intercultural understanding and innovation. Provide tools for social inclusion: Workshops and practical activities will teach participants how to include people with disabilities in educational, work and social settings. These strategies can be duplicated in communities to build more inclusive societies. Create a support network for young participants to share experiences and promote inclusiveness. This multinational network of young people can promote new activities on the rights of people with disabilities once the experiment is over. Create awareness of the relevance of empathic conflict resolution: The project will create understanding of how empathy can avoid or resolve social and interpersonal conflicts, both in disability and other diversity settings. Increase psychological and physical well-being of young people with disabilities: The project will provide spaces where young people with disabilities can express themselves, have fun and feel part of society through physical, creative and well-being activities. Inspire volunteering and civic engagement: A long-term goal is to inspire young participants to actively participate in their communities, promoting disability inclusion programs locally and internationally.
